Megan's Shrug
Created for Megan, who wanted a plain, no fancy stitches, shrug that she could wear in her colder classes.

Directions

I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease, about 3 ½ skeins. (4 was enough to make the shrug and the hat and still have leftover)

Gauge: 3 st/inch in stockingette stitch. You can use this gauge to adjust for size. My daughter is a small, so this makes a small sweater.

Construction: It’s all basic pieces, with little shaping. I only made decreases on the sleeves. I did a couple of rows of garter stitch, just to keep it from rolling on the bottom edges, and I slipped the first stitch on the inside edge of the front pieces, just to make it smoother, but you don’t have to do any of that if you don’t want.

Back:
Cast on 48 stitches.
Work in Garter Stitch for 4 rows.
Change to Stockingette Stitch and work until piece is 13” long.
Bind off.

Front: (Make 2, but only slip the stitch on the inside edge)
Cast on 24.
Work 4 rows of Garter Stitch.
Change to Stockingette Stitch, slipping the first stitch on the inside edge.
Work for 13” (or until length matches the back)
Bind off.

Sleeves: (Make 2)
Starting from the top (so you know when to stop), Cast on 45
Work in Stockingette Stitch for about 11 rows.
Then decrease one at each end every 6 rows until you are about an inch short of your total sleeve length.
Then work 4 rows of Garter Stitch.
Bind off.

Ties: (Make 2)
Cast on 10.
Work in Stockingette Stitch for about 10”.
Bind off.
(These will roll themselves into nice tubes. You could use I-cord or ribbon or whatever, but I liked the scarfy-ness of the knitted ties)

Sew together in your favorite method. Then work one row of single crochet around the neck and front edge.

Viola!
